Zenefits has all the HR tools that make managing your people easy, from streamlined onboarding and easy PTO tracking to org charts, performance reviews, and so much more.
I joined Zenefits in the early stages of creating the design department and helped build the team out to 10 designers, a copywriting team, and a QA department. I worked with the engineering and marketing departments to integrate our team into the development cycle and sync our style with our marketing efforts.
From the beginning, one of my biggest pushes was to create a unified style guide that could be shared amongst not only our team, but front-end engineering, and marketing. One of the most important things a company can do to build trust in its users is to create consistent interactions and design across its platform. I strive to create that unity in both interactions and visual style. I built out and maintained a component library that was shared across design and front-end engineering. I also created a set of design principles and a persona for each user role on the site. With these tools, the design and engineering departments had a scalable structure and building blocks to create a unified platform that felt familiar and consistent to the user.
I led the creation and design of the API platform for Zenefits. This included brainstorming potential API integrations, sketching them out, and pitching them to partners in order to show the capabilities of the platform. I also designed all integration flows, landing pages, dashboards, and even some 3rd party sites. I also began mentoring a junior designer in order to scale up our design bandwidth as the number of partners grew.
The Best of the Rest
I led the design of a large number of projects. I redesigned the template for all of the setup flows on the entire site. This includes creating a Zenefits account, picking insurance for your company, and setting up payroll. I also redesigned the entire benefits branch of the platform, including picking plans to offer employees, dashboards, setup, employee sign-up processes, and reimbursable expenses. I also led the redesign of the time and attendance branch, which includes creating employee types (salaried, hourly full-time, hourly part-time, night shift), employees clocking in/out, verifying hours that employees worked, and paying employees.
